It’s not a joke or a tall-tale: both men and woman start to shrink in height after the ages of 30.
On average, men shrink by 3cm and women shrink by 5cm.
This is caused by the natural ageing process, as we lose both muscle and bone. Furthermore, gravity causes the spine to compress a little, obviously aiding to the loss in height.
Conditions such as the brittle bone disease, osteoporosis can make the problem worse, and interestingly an increasing number of young men are becoming victims to the disease: it’s not simply something that effects older females.
Keep your bones strong by ensuring you’re eating a good balance of milk, cheese and yoghurt in your daily food intake.
